Nearby, the Galloway Forest Park is renowned for its secluded 300 square miles of beautiful green forest, wealth of wildlife, majestic mountain scenery and two of the 7stanes mountain biking centres, Glentrool and Kirroughtree. At night, it is also one of the best spots in the UK for stargazing with the naked eye, as it's the first Dark Sky Park in the UK and one of only two in Europe! Just a short drive will take you to the sandy beaches of Luce Bay or the rocky coves along the coast, an area once famed as the haunt of both smugglers and saints.
