Torrisdale Castle Estate is situated in a stunning location on the Kintyre peninsula overlooking the island of Arran. With an excellent range of accommodation, the estate has lots to offer for all visitors.
Our superb range of self-catering properties on Kintyre's east coast provide accommodation for groups of between 2 and 10 people. The estate offers the perfect opportunity to experience the comforts of modern day living whilst relaxing within a stunning and stress-free environment. Breaks are available for a minimum of 3 nights throughout the year.
We are also embracing green technology, and will shortly be installing a biomass boiler to serve several properties on the estate, and a small hydro scheme which will generate enough electricity for 90 houses. In addition, our innovative tree planting scheme allows you, as our guest, to plant a tree for every holiday taken.
Within the ground floor of the castle is a large and spacious self-catering apartment and set within the peaceful wooded grounds are a further four superb cottages and houses.
The Kintyre Way passes through the estate, which is an ideal base for those looking to complete the long distance walk in individual stretches, being almost halfway on the 87 mile route.
Of special interest at Torrisdale is the organic tannery, specialising in natural coloured sheepskins and deer skins using an ancient tanning method to produce a superior skin.
Garden Cottage is a real gem. Situated on a wooded hillside overlooking the former walled garden, the property was fully refurbished in 2011 and comprises a large double bedroom with king size bed, bathroom with shower and bath, a comfortable sitting room/dining room, and a separate kitchen. With timber lined walls, working shutters, a feature fireplace with log burning stove, and insulated to the highest level, this cottage offers year round accommodation and is the ideal romantic hideaway. The new outdoor wood burning eco hot tub, installed early April 2012, has been an instant hit. Load up the hot tub with wood, go for a walk to the beach, come back, strip off and jump in with a glass of champagne!
South Lodge is a lovely B-Listed cottage situated at the main gates of the estate and has views to die for towards the Kilbrannan Sound and the Isle of Arran from the large picture window in the living room! A small sandy beach is located nearby and a secluded garden lies adjacent to the cottage, next to the burn that leads to the sea. The cottage offers year round accommodation and is the ideal romantic retreat, whatever the weather. Refurbished during early 2012, the accommodation of South Lodge comprises a double bedroom, sitting room/dining room with adjacent kitchen and a large bathroom with electric shower over the bath. Laundry facilities are available at the castle and the cottage has a new multi-fuel stove in the living room.
Lephincorrach is the former estate farmhouse and its size makes it ideal for large families or two families holidaying together. Sleeping up to 10 people, this house offers excellent value, and having been fully refurbished in 2011 is the most popular on the estate. With working shutters in four of the rooms downstairs, a large stove in the living room, 1/2 metre of insulation and a new super-efficient hot water system, the house also has fantastic 'green' credentials. The house has 5 bedrooms - 2 double rooms, a room with full-sized single bunk beds, and 2 twin bedded rooms upstairs. There is a large breakfasting kitchen with adjoining dining room, sitting room, bathroom with bath and electric shower, shower room and separate WC. A large enclosed garden to the front of the property is ideal for ball games or simply to sit in and enjoy the wonderful scenery.
The Arch Cottage is a new addition to the self-catering properties on Torrisdale Estate. Previously the chauffeur's lodgings, the property is located on the Castle lawns and has perhaps the best views on the estate! With accommodation over three floors due to its unique characteristics, the property is unsuitable for the elderly or the infirm. The bedroom, with en-suite bathroom, is located on the top floor, over the Arch, with the living room, complete with log burning stove on the middle floor, and the kitchen with separate cloak room on the ground floor.
The Servants' Quarters is located on the ground floor of the Castle, and as the name suggests used to form the various stores, kitchens and communal rooms for the workers of the house. This apartment is due to be completed in Spring 2013 and will offer a superb holiday home, with private entrance leading to the castle lawns. The apartment has excellent views towards the sea and the Isle of Arran, and whilst technically an 'apartment', extends to around 1,800 sqft of space - equivalent to a good sized family home! The Servants' Quarters will comprise a lovely kitchen/dining room, a large living room, master bedroom with en-suite facilities including feature roll-top bath, two further twin rooms and a shower room. There will also be a secret room carefully hidden for all to try and find - open the room and see what you find.....!
