BY TRAIN OR BUS
Due to disrupitions from the Edinburgh Tram works many of the bus routes are changing in the city centre from day to day. Please contact us directly for the latest transport information.
The fare is £1.40. A day ticket is £3.20 from Lothian buses. Do not buy a day ticket from the First Bus company, there are only a few of them, and limited coverage of Edinburgh.
From Waverley Train Station,
Take the Lothian Transport 44 bus, marked BALERNO, on the gardens side of Princes Street. Close to the Art Galleries on the gardens side of the road.
From St Andrews Square Bus Station
Exit the Bus Station onto St. Andrews Square, walk towards Princes Street, staying on the same side of the road and the bus stop is in 200 yards. Same bus as above.
From Haymarket Train Station.
Exit the station and turn right onto Dalry Road, cross the road and the bus stop is within 200 yards. Bus No. 44 for Balerno.
The bus ride will be around 25 – 30 minutes except in rush hour!!.
From Princes St you will pass, Caledonian Hotel, Haymarket Station area, Dalry Road, Ardmillan Terrace, Caledonian Brewery and ASDA to your right, The Blue Goose (pub) Cross Keys (pub) and Tanners (pub) to your left.
After Tanners the road crosses over (above) the city bypass, in the Juniper Green area. You pass through Juniper Green village, past the, Royal Bank , Juniper Inn and Iceland superstore all on your right.
In about 3/4 of a mile you will see more Co-op petrol station on the left hand side. There is a bus stop a few yards after the petrol station, a stretch of trees on the left then another bus stop. Push the bell now to indicate that you want to get off at the next stop. This stop is called Easter Currie.
Violet Bank House is the last house on your left, directly opposite Hope Scott Garage. Violet Bank is the house on the corner.
If you miss the Easter Currie stop you will get off at the Currie Toll stop which is opposite the Riccarton Inn pub. (A large white building on the right) You will be able to see both Hope Scott and Violet Bank from this stop, a 100 yard walk back.
Do not take the train to Curriehill Station, it is a good mile from us and there is no way to to get to our house other than a walk uphill.
