Wild Orchid GH

An attractive, modern, purpose-built guest house in its own grounds with a large private car park to the front, situated in the heart of Durness.

An excellent base from which to explore the dramatic and rugged coastline of north-west Sutherland. Ideal destination for walkers climbers, cyclists, fishermen, golfers, birdwatchers and, indeed, anyone wishing relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the beaches, hills and lochs.
Enjoy a hearty breakfast and a range of home baking in our tea rooms.
There are six comfortable either double or twin en-suite rooms all tastefully decorated and with tea making facilities. We have separate dining room and guest lounge with TV, VCR and DVD., we also offer internet access.
A warm friendly welcome awaits you.
Durness is located in north-west Sutherland, an area of unspoilt beauty, with sandy beaches, rugged cliffs and an abundance of birds and other wildlife.
Some of the local places of interest to visit while you are here are:-
Cape Wrath lighthouse-you will undertake a journey consisting of a crossing by ferry of the Kyle of Durness where you will be met by a mini bus to complete the eleven mile trip by road to the lighthouse. From the lighthouse, on a good day you will see a spectacular sight not to be missed.
Smoo cave- a large inland limestone cave. You can take a boat trip inside the cave which was used up to 6000 years ago by early settlers.
Balnakeil Craft Village- a disused army camp-now home to craftsmen happy to explain and demonstrate their various crafts.
Balnakeil Church and graveyard- containing a number of fascinating graves and monuments, including that of Rob Donn the Gaelic poet.
Balnakeil House- once home to Lord Reay, Chief of the Clan Mackay.
Balnakeil Golf Course- the most northerly on the British mainland and with unbelievable views.
Faraid Head- a vantage point for seeing puffins and other seabirds as well as sea creatures such as porpoises, seals, dolphins and whales. Take a walk, at your own pace, amid some stunning scenery, or take a guided walk with the ranger who will, of course, point out various sights.
