Deep Roots is Kilmarnock's major Homecoming Scotland 2014 event featuring exhibitions, spectacular outdoor performances and much more, that will reveal the hidden secrets of Dean Castle and Country Park.
The Deep Roots project has grown from the important and intriguing history of the Boyd Family, residents and Lords of Kilmarnock for over 400 years. The 1316 Charter from Robert the Bruce to Robert Boyd gifted the lands of Kilmarnock to the Boyds, as an acknowledgement of their support during this time. The Boyds are a famous Scottish family with deep roots linked to many key moments in Scottish history and their story will be retold in a range of truly unique, one off events at their ancestral home – Dean Castle.
