Our games take place at the end of the Lothian & Borders pipe band circuit and, as such, are generally considered to be friendly, but still competitive, games.
The games are preceded by our new chieftain, ex-chieftains, guests and officials marching from the town centre up to the park. Four levels of pipe band competitions take place during the day, usually attracting over 30 pipe bands with over 50 performances.
Also, well attended Juvenile and Adult Drum Majors competitions.
Highland dancing competitions between around 60 competitors take place in three basic sections i.e. Primary, Beginners/Novice and Intermediate/Premier. Finally, the very popular 'heavy' events.
Usually about 10 competitors tackle traditional events such as Putting the Shot (16lb), Throwing the Hammer (56lb), Tossing the Caber, etc. Numerous food and amusement stalls, plus beer tent, satisfy visitors and competitors alike.
