Part of Homecoming Scotland 2014, Race the Castles is based on the castles of Edinburgh, Stirling, Crathes and Balmoral. It offers international World Ranking Events and British and Commonwealth Championships for elite racers, alongside mass-participation courses suitable for all ages.
The first weekend features sprint distance and urban racing in the Old Towns of Edinburgh and Stirling. The route is disclosed only at the start line, with a marked map of the course around the city. However, you can be sure to be racing through both the tourist highlights and the dark back alleys of these great cities.
The elite race will feature a multinational invited field, racing a short course around 3 km. There will also be a few places open for qualifiers from a special Friday night race. The open races will tour more of the cities, with courses ranging for 2 km to 8 km. However, you should remember that these are straight-line distances, so unless you can run through walls the actual distances will be considerably more!
A week's tourist possibilities will combine with low-key training events in Speyside, followed by the second weekend of races on Deeside, over classic distance at Balmoral and relay for elites at Crathes, again with open races for all ages.
