The market offers a slice of the countryside in an urban setting. Over the last few years, Dundee has become a strong regional retail location with a pedestriansed, family-friendly city centre containing designer, high street and local independent names that have been tempting consumers to Dundee in ever-increasing numbers from far and wide. To add to this the monthly farmersmarkets have become a key event in the campaign to offer greater attractions to both local and visiting shoppers. Organic vegetables, honey, preserves, Scottish wines and beers, home baking, roasted coffee beans, raspberry drinks, venison, lamb, beef, plants and herbs are on offer on the range of stalls. Cookery demonstrations are provided by Hilton Dundee's Chef between May and September, and at every market there is a different form of music to add to the atmosphere. The central focus of the market is to provide local goods, with the promise of quality that comes from buying direct from the producer. Dundee City Council economic development convener Councillor Joe Morrow explains: The farmers markets have been running for a number of years now and are very popular. There is a chance to buy some treats and excellent produce, and the market also has the effect of creating a real buzz around the centrehe market runs from January to December on the third Saturday of each month.
