The Creel

Front Road, St Margarets Hope, Orkney, Orkney, KW17 2SL

Welcome to The Creel RESTAURANT OPEN TUESDAY - SATURDAY (April - October).

We always use local produce wherever available. The freshest of fish is always on the menu, including many species you may not know as and when they are available - wolf-fish, megrim, torsk and sea-witch being just a few examples. Hand-dived scallops, mackerel caught in a nearby bay, mussels , and lobster from local creels feature when in season. Enjoy feasting on organic salmon, prime Orkney beef and seaweed-fed lamb from North Ronaldsay. All these are accompanied by locally grown vegetables, including the incomparable Orkney new potatoes, and followed by desserts that feature Orkney strawberries and raspberries - and lets not forget our own home-made ice cream and home-baked bannocks, sourdough, fruit and soda bread...

We have a fine selection of Orkney ales from the islands' award-winning brewery, and malt whiskies from the Highland Park and Scapa distilleries as well as other Scottish single malts. Add to these some carefully chosen wines and you have the ingredients for a memorable dinner.

All you need do now is to decide when you want to come - having done so please contact us to check on availability. Booking is always recommended.

If you have any specific dietary needs please let us know at the time of booking.

In May 2006 we celebrated 21 years at the Creel and were delighted when, in the same month, Alan was awarded Scottish Restaurant Chef of The Year by the Scottish Chefs Association - a lovely way to commemorate such a special anniversary.  In 2004 we were awarded the Which Good Food Guide Scotland Restaurant of the Year, and in 1998 their Northern Fish Restaurant.

Over the years we have had many favourable comments from satisfied diners, from those left in our guestbook to the more 'formal' accolades. The restaurant has two rosettes from the AA and is listed as a four star Restaurant with Rooms by the Scottish Tourist Board and the AA.  We are also recommended in the current Michelin Guide.
