Originally a Blacksmith's Shop, 2005 saw significant refurbishment and a warm welcome now awaits all in our AA rated 4 star Restaurant with rooms.
The Horseshoe is a restaurant which looks after a small number of guests at a time but those guests are looked after very, very well. Whilst we could fit in more dining tables our philosophy is keep it small and do it well. There are just ten tables in the restaurant. There is also a private dining room for parties of up to fourteen.
Eight lovely bedrooms have been created from the beautifully restored Victorian village school house which sits just behind the Horseshoe. You’ll see this building when you pull into the Horseshoe private car park. If you are staying over-night please leave your luggage in your car, come to the Horseshoe main entrance to check-in and we will then bring your luggage to your bedroom for you.
The bedrooms are rated 4 Gold Stars by the AA Guide; though modest in size they all have en-suite showers, bathrobes, luxurious local handmade organic toiletries, mineral water, tea and coffee making trays with fresh milk, fresh fruit and homemade cake.
Breakfast at the Horseshoe is a meal considered as important for us as dinner and we were delighted to receive in 2012 and again in 2013 an award from the AA Guide for our outstanding breakfasts.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from Wednesday until Sunday. Because everything is fresh there are changes to the menus on a daily basis.
The restaurant is luxuriously furnished with candle-lit antique polished wood tables, deep pile Axminster carpet and striking, original works of modern art. There is also a separate private dining room for parties of up to fourteen and a charming flag-stoned lounge with luxurious sofas, chesterfields and a wood burning stove The lounge has a bar brimming with Single Malt Whisky, Scottish Gins, imported Vodkas, Cognac and Armagnac and micro-brewery local real ales by the bottle. The whole building is candle-lit at night.
The restaurant is complemented by a charming lounge with luxurious sofas, chesterfields and a wood burning stove. The lounge has a bar brimming with Single Malt Whisky, a half a dozen Scottish Gins, authentic imported Vodkas, Cognac and Armagnac and micro-brewery local real ales by the bottle. The whole building is candle-lit at night. We are often complimented upon our service; friendly rather than stuffy, unobtrusive as opposed to pompous.
You’ll find a local guide in your bedroom with suggestions for walks and sight-seeing, along with numerous novels and travel books to Scotland. Bring a book with you across to the lounge and curl up before the wood burning stove and plan your time in the Scottish Borders. One of the team is always on hand throughout the day if you fancy a pot of tea, glass of wine or a wee dram.
Please note, we are closed Mondays & Tuesdays and don’t take overnight bookings on Sundays.
