The Willow was the only tea room building in Glasgow where Charles Rennie Mackintosh had complete control over every aspect of the design, remodelling the exterior as well as the interior, even designed the tea spoons and waitress dresses.
Of all the interiors created by Mackintosh, the Room de Luxe was, and is still regarded today, as the jewel in the crown of his work. The leaded glass work is very much admired by everyone who visits the tea rooms, particularly the doors and the mirrors around the room. Ladies who lunched in the Room in the early 1900s willingly paid a penny more! Today, our menu includes a range of mouth-watering dishes (served all day), including traditional breakfasts, Scottish Savoury dishes, a selection of speciality sandwiches and a range of delicious desserts, including the renowned Willow meringues.
For that must have treat, enjoy afternoon tea, served on a traditional three-tiered cake stand - includes a selection of sandwiches, scone with strawberry jam & clotted cream, buttered shortbread and a choice of cake from the cake cabinet.
The Tea Room serves over 25 blends of loose leaf teas, with the range including black, green, fruit and herbal teas. Coffees, Hot Chocolates and a range of cold drinks are also available. Prior booking is not required but the Tea Room are delighted to take reservations.
Located on the mezzanine level of the Tea Rooms, is the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society City Centre Information Point. This is a valuable resource for everyone interested in the life and works of one of Glasgow's most famous architects. There is also information on the work of the CRM Society, membership and volunteering opportunities.
The Willow Tea Rooms has a long-standing reputation, and is something of a Glasgow landmark. It is a very popular venue, and at busy times there can be quite a long queue for a table. Good food, cheerful service and the atmosphere welcoming.
