A Circuit of Loch Dunmore

Cycle Routes

This is a great walk for all the family and for those with mobility difficulties. Distance: 1.5km/0.9miles Duration: 3/4 hour

A gentle walk from the car park around secluded and picturesque Loch Dunmore in Faskally Forest. Faskally Forest lies on the north shore of Loch Faskally, a man made loch, just outside the pretty victorian town of Pitlochry. It is something of a model forest with a wide mix of tree species, some over 200 years old, surrounding picturesque Loch Dunmore. This landscape was created last century in the grounds of Faskally House, which in turn, was used as a Forestry Commission school.

Today, a gentle stroll around the woodlands will reveal the fantastic variety that has been achieved and maintained by the use of innovatory management techniques. A great time to visit is in late autumn when the loch reflects the resplendent colours of autumn from the surrounding trees.

The walk around Loch Dunmore is accessed via car parks in the Forest just off the B8019. Follow the path around the loch keeping a sharp lookout for Heron fishing in the reeds and the blur of electric blue, as a Kingfisher quickly darts over the water. This is an excellent route for those with mobility difficulties and there are several built up butts close to the water to allow closer access.

There are other routes available through Faskally Forest starting and finishing from the same car park.
