This visitor centre in the picturesque town of Bridge of Allan lets you see behind the scenes of a working micro-brewery.
Allanwater Brewhouse and Visitor Centre was established in August 1997 by the proprietor, Douglas Ross, in the Victorian Spa town of Bridge of Allan. You will find it nestled between the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle, close to the banks of the River Allan.
The Forth Valley area was once a very important brewing area with over 32 breweries at one time. This was due to the port facilities, ample crop growing fertile lands and fresh water from the Ochil Hills. Beers and ales from here were shipped to other parts of Scotland, England and other parts of the world. Sadly there are no longer any large breweries left in the area but brewing still continues in the Forth Valley thanks to the four local micro breweries like Allanwater producing fine quality Scottish ales and still exporting overseas.
At the Allanwater Brewhouse and Visitor Centre you can see behind the scenes of a real working micro-brewery, meet the brewer and learn the secrets of making a traditional hand-brewed Scottish pint using 100 percent natural ingredients. Entry and tastings of Allanwater’s best-selling cask ales is free.
