Welcome Appie's Arty Yarns (formerly Appie's Tearoom).

Hello and welcome to Appies Arty Yarns (formerly Appie's Tearoom) in the West Mainland of Orkney.

It has taken me a year of spinning, dyeing and peg-loom weaving to work out what I can confidently offer you, the visitor, when you come here.  I don’t profess to be an expert in any of these things as I only started working in this media a year ago however, my enthusiasm and determination to find out about all things woolly has meant that it's been a very busy year.   So, what can I offer?

For the yarn-lover I have some beautiful hand-dyed yarns available as Sock wool, 4-ply, Double Knitting, Aran and Super chunky most of which are machine washable.  Also, a wide range of hand-spun yarns (NOT machine washable !) in all sorts of colours and textures.  As a knitter and crocheter myself I have been frustrated by the limitations of manufactured yarns in recent years and so have tried to do something 'different'.  I hope you'll like the result.

For the spinners and woolly people I have a couple of drum-carders, blending board, hand-carders, 2 spinning wheels and lots of fleece, so if you're getting the jitters from being away from it all while on holiday, come along and get a fix!

Appies is also the home of the monthly meetings of the West Mainland Spinners but these tend only to run throughout the winter.  Give me a ring if you'd like to come along.

Well, I hope there's something there to interest you and I look forward to seeing your creations and chatting about woolly things.  Perhaps you'd like to try a quick spin??
