Absent in Scotland’s skies for over a century, red kites are slowly making a comeback thanks to an exciting project to re-introduce them.
Visitors to the farm can now enjoy fantastic views of one of Scotland’s rarest breeding birds thanks to an exciting partnership between the landowners, RSPB and SNH to provide a feeding station. Red kites are most abundant through the winter months (October - March) when they form large social groups. A purpose built hide offers great close-up views of the kites coming down to the daily feed.
Live CCTV links to red kite nests in summer and to the feeding site in winter can be viewed in the visitor centre where visitors can learn more about the birds and the farm.
As well as viewing the spectacular red kites, visitors can participate in guided walks or car-driven safaris (April - September and pre-booking is essential) to see the wide variety of wildlife and sites of historical and archaeological interest.
Over 100 different types of birds have been recorded at Argaty. Mammals such as red squirrels and roe deer are regularly seen, making Argaty a wildlife hotspot. The wild flower meadows are rich in butterflies and moths, and orchids are a particular feature in early summer.
