Head to Moss Rapploch and admire Bruce’s Stone, a granite boulder commemorating Robert the Bruce’s first victory over the English in 1307.
Located 6 miles west of New Galloway, this granite boulder on Moss Rapploch commemorates Robert the Bruce’s first victory over an English army in 1307 during the Scottish Wars of Independence.
Today the stone has a more peaceful setting. Take a gentle stroll from Clatteringshaws Visitor Centre to this massive granite rock, enjoying superb views of Loch Troll and the Galloway Hills.
For the more active, the stone is also a recommended starting spot for the challenging walk up Merrick (2764 feet), the highest mountain in southern Scotland.
