Road Directions
By car: From Glasgow, take the M8/A8 to Greenock, at the fire station turn left onto the B788 and continue onto the B7054, follow the brown signs for the old Largs road scenic route and diversion signs to the Greenock Cut Visitor Centre.
From Ayrshire, take the A78 to Largs, from Largs follow the Brisbane Glen road after 8 miles turn left and follow signs to the Greenock Cut Visitor Centre.
***Please note the Shielhill Glen road from Inverkip is still closed by a landslide***
Public Transport Directions
By train: Glasgow Central to Inverkip or Drumfrochar (Wemyss Bay line). Inverkip is 5km from the site, uphill on a single-track road. Alternatively, from Drumfrochar station, follow the road uphill past Overton Primary School. Take the 2nd turning on your left which leads to a small carpark. From there go to the white Waterman’s Cottage, through the gate and up the Overton track for 4km which leads to the centre, car park and toilets. A more scenic route to the visitor centre is along the Greenock Cut (6.5km) turning right along the cut towpath instead of through the gate at the cottage. This gives great views of Greenock and the Clyde estuary as far down as Ailsa Craig.
By bus: The only bus from Glasgow involves a 4.5km walk uphill on a single-track road (McGill’s 901, Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station–Largs, which passes the site on the A78) but C&M Coaches run a local bus service from the travel centre in West Stewart Street, Greenock, to Overton, and from here you can take either of the two scenic walks detailed in ‘By train’ above.
