Castle Campbell Hall 1 High Street, Dollar, Clackmannanshire, FK14 7AY

Whether you want to learn about the 877 Battle of Dollar or see Neolithic stone carvings, this museum is packed full of fascinating exhibits.

Located in Clackmannanshire, the museum is independently run and dedicated to Dollar’s history and heritage. Originally a 19th century woolen mill, the museum’s exhibits occupy two floors, with a comprehensive collection of pieces illustrating the history of the village. This includes a collection of photographs and a recreated old fashioned kitchen.

Initially, the museum started in just a small room as part of Dollar’s Old School House, though it quickly outgrew this space. After help from the Clackmannashire Council the museum was transported to the Old Brunt Mill. Thanks to its growing popularity, Dollar Museum once again needed more space and with the assistance of the Heritage National Lottery fund it expanded to a second floor, incorporating a sophisticated store and archive room. The renovations soon garnered a Museum of the Year Award in 2000, which was awarded by Princess Anne.

The last few years have seen further developments, with additional funding leading to a major exhibit on the Devon National Railway in 2009. A year later, Dollar Museum was awarded Full Accreditation, after reaching the national standards set by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council.
