Helping people enjoy nature!
Despite its remote location Forsinard and the Flow Country attract considerable interest from visitors and local schools. The RSPB visitor centre at Forsinard, housed in the former station buildings, is open daily (9am-5pm) between April and October and contains a static exhibition, audio-visual display and live CCTV footage of breeding Hen Harriers. An Information Assistant is employed seasonally to provide information and interpretation to visitors; leading guided walks and delivering community talks.
The reserve has two marked trails of different lengths which allow visitors to explore the peatland habitat, discovering the complex pool systems and giving them the potential opportunity to see some of the amazing wildlife on the reserve; such as breeding waders, hunting Hen Harrier or herds of grazing Red Deer.
Through connecting our visitors and young people with the natural world we hope to inspire them to take an active interest in helping to protect the peatland environment and the complex range of plants and animals that live here.
