Gairloch to Melvaig
Cycle Routes
A 17 mile route along the coast north of Gairloch with good views out to the Isle of Skye.
Start near the centre of Gairloch where the B8021 joins the A832 - there are a number of parking areas around here if required. Follow the B8021 along the north shore of the bay through the part of Gairloch known as Strath. The route continues on this road past the youth hostel and Big Sand campsite (where there’s a wonderful beach) before it swings northwards and briefly heads inland before rejoining the coast near Erradale. The road then follows the coast, undulating as it goes until Melvaig is reached. Those wanting a slightly longer route can follow the road for a further 3 miles (each way) to the lighthouse at Rubha Reidh. Although not a public road, bikes are permitted but beware –the surface is a bit rougher. Return to Gairloch by the outward route.
