Gight Wood lies on the steep, south facing slopes of the Ythan valley, forming the easternmost part of a series of woodlands and river grasslands.
Brooding over the woods at the downstream end is the ruin of Gight Castle, once the family home of Lord Byron.
Species include roe deer, fox, badger, red squirrel and otter. Notable plants include wood millet, three-nerved sandwort, climbing corydalis, smooth and remote sedges and the hairy brome.
Gight Wood is found at a remote location, about 3 miles east of Fyvie off the B9005, just outside the village of Methlick.
