Inveraray Jail is a living museum and visitor attraction where real people portray life in a 19th century prison.
This award-winning attraction has established itself as one of Scotland's most exciting heritage attractions. Visitors can sit in the restored 1820s courtroom with lifelike models and listen to excerpts from trials of the past before passing pass on to the prisons below, and meeting with the Warder, Matron and Prison Guides, all dressed in period costumes.
Roam the airing yards, see furnished cells and experience authentic prison sounds and smells. Other exhibitions include "Torture Death and Damnation", "In Prison Today", "The Introduction of Photography" and "Katie" - the Governor's Cow.
Visit the information room and see the prison cooking facilities, before passing through the gift shop, full of exclusive souvenir items, books and gifts with prices to suit all pockets.
For those visitors who use hearing aids, the Courtroom is fitted with an Induction Loop and disabled visitors in wheelchairs are allowed into the ground floors.
