Discover the fascinating secular and natural history of Iona at this excellent local history museum.
Housed in the former Church of Scotland Manse, the Iona Heritage Museum opened in 1990 following an enthusiastic fundraising campaign by local keen to emphasise the non-religious but equally compelling heritage of Iona. Interesting displays and artefacts bring to life the story of the island and its residents over the last 200 years. These encompass everything from vital industries such as crafting and fishing to major historical events, local folklore, famous visitors and the island’s geological evolution. Light refreshment including delicious home baking and freshly made soup and filled rolls are available at the Heritage Garden Café. There is also an outdoor picnic area where visitors can enjoy lunch on pleasant days.
