Discover how life was once lived on the remote Isle of Ulva, located off the west coast of the Isle of Mull.
Located just a one minute boat trip away from the Isle of Mull, the Isle of Ulva Heritage Centre is an excellent starting point for visitors to this tiny island. Interpretative displays offer a compelling insight into the development of life on Ulva and provide information on local wildlife and suggested walking trails around the island. Near the centre is Sheila’s Cottage, a carefully reconstructed dwelling named after its last resident Sheila MacFadyen in the early 20th century. Inside are displays on the human history of Ulva which was most came to a complete halt during the devastating Highland Clearances on the 1840s. Once home to a population of 700 during the early 19th century, today Ulva numbers just under 30 inhabitants. Adjacent to the centre is the Boathouse, a licensed tearoom which serves a menu of local produce including freshly caught oysters.
