The Carbisdale trails offer challenging cycling for competent mountain bike riders with excellent views over the inner Dornoch Firth and Bonar Bridge.

Carbisdale Trails offer everything that you could possibly expect from a trail centre – fantastic singletrack, plenty of natural trail feature, fantastic views and a café. And once you have honed your skills on the red and blue trails, Balblair black grade trails are just over the river!

The beginning of the trails at Carbisdale take you past the magnificent castle and share some of the local Victorian pathways to bring you to the start of the singletrack fun.

The blue grade trail then turns through fast berms and switchbacks, punctuated by avoidable technical trails features, often utilising the abundant bedrock. These sections of rock also pose additional options for some more technical riding for those more experienced bikers.

A recently improved section of trail - known as Hissing Sid - carries you over more bedrock with views down the Dornoch Firth before fast sweeping corners provide a blue grade return to the car park. For those looking to extend their ride the red grade option continues climbing up to a small sheltered lochan before a 3km decent takes you over rock features and weaving between the trees. The trail is so intimately built within the existing woodland that specialist machinery was used to allow trail builders to work tightly between the trees. The extra effort was certainly worth it!

Overall the Carbisdale trails offer challenging cycling for intermediate level and competent mountain bike riders with excellent views over the inner Dornoch Firth and Bonar Bridge. With optional rock features, wonderful views and technical descents such as ‘Goldie Rocks’, ‘Hissing Sid’, ‘Little Red Riding Wood’ and ‘What Big Teeth’ along with forest road sections Carbisdale has something to offer everyone.
