With overarching ferns, bamboo trees and brooks, Linn Gardens offers a green paradise for garden lovers.
Based off the Shore Road at Cove Bay, this cliffside garden has a terrace with views overlooking the Firth of Clyde towards Arran. Visit the watergarden, formal ponds, fountains and a glen with waterfalls.
Linn’s name comes from the swampy ground below the cliff, which was once flooded by the Meikle and Bogle Burns. The garden was designed by architect William Motherwell, after the land was leased to William Martin from the Duke of Argyll. Martin then arranged the construction of Linn Garden’s villa in 1860. More recently, in 1971, the garden fell under the stewardship of Dr. James Taggart, who extensively redeveloped the garden.
Guided tours of the garden can be arranged for organised parties. The Linn Nursery stocks many species of garden plants, which can be purchased.
