Lower Nethan Gorge is part of the Clyde Valley Woodlands National Nature Reserve and is one of the best examples of semi-natural woodland still surviving in the Clyde Valley.
Rich ash and elm woodland grows on the steep slopes, supporting a wide variety of plants. There is a variety of woodland walks and the added bonus of the gorge views. The best time to see the woodland flowers is between April and June. In autumn, the colours are spectacular.
