Monuments & Ruins

Stirling, Loch Lomond, Trossachs and Forth Valley

Standing in the Old Town Cemetery in Stirling, the monument commemorates the young Scottish Convenanter, Margaret Wilson.

Margaret Wilson, from Wigtown in Galloway, refused to swear an oath declaring King James VII as the head of the church for what she was executed by drowning. Her death became part of the martyrology of Presbyterian churches and consequently Margaret was declared the most famous of the Wigtown Martyrs.
