Menstrie Castle

Menstrie Place, Menstrie, Clackmannanshire, FK11 7AH

Visit the birthplace of Sir William Alexander at the historical Menstrie Castle.

Sir William Alexander, who was the first Earl of Stirling, was born in Menstrie Castle. He later became James VI’s Lietenant for the Plantation of Nova Scotia, and an exhibition in the Nova Scotia Commemoration Room tells the story of this ill-fated scheme.

The National Trust for Scotland, in co-operation with the then Clackmannanshire County Council, played a large part in saving Menstrie Castle from demolition.
