Orkney Islands Council operates six swimming pools with two on the Mainland (Kirkwall and Stromness) and four on the isles (Westray, Sanday, Stronsay and North Walls).
Five of the Orkney swimming pools have been built on school sites, with Stromness being the exception. The Kirkwall pool is 25 m long and has a diving board and spectator area. The Stromness pool building underwent extensive refurbishment in 2000 and includes a steam room, sauna and spa. The North Walls pool is 9 m in length. The Sanday, Stronsay and Westray are all 15 m in length.
