Whisky, Uisghe Breatha, the Water of Life.
A Heavenly combination of whisky and water awaits you, encapsulating the true spirit of Scotland. This is a unique driving trail of world famous malts, distinctive distilleries and a unique cooperage weaves among the woods and glens of the Spey Valley.
Moray is truly malt whisky country but that's not all Moray is famous for. Baxters of Speyside, Walkers Shortbread and Johnstons of Elgin Cashmere are just a few of the world-renowned names found here. Other attractions in the area include castles at Brodie and Ballindalloch, Elgin's magnificent Cathedral, known as 'the Lantern of the North and glorious gardens. Walk the Speyside Way, from the coast, with its beautiful beaches and fishing villages, through the fertile plains of the Laich of Moray, following the River Spey to the dramatic Grampian Highlands.
The Speyside Way footpath passes through Spey Bay, the location of the Tugnet Ice House and the Moray Firth Wildlife Centre. The Moray Firth is one of only two places in Britain where there is a resident population of bottle-nosed dolphins and the keen eyed visitor can see schools at play or take boat trips from harbours. Play a round or two of golf on some of Moray's championship golf courses, breathe in the aroma of malt whisky from the highest tee in Scotland at Dufftown, or relish in the engaging tests at Moray Old.
Follow the world-famous Malt Whisky Trail through Speyside to seven working distilleries, including a fascinating cooperage and a historic distillery. From Benromach to Dallas Dhu, a perfect time capsule of whisky-making; from Glen Moray to Strathisla, home and heart of Chivas Regal; from the Glen Grant distillery to the Speyside Cooperage where real coopers work with incredible speed and skill; from Glenfiddich to The Glenlivet and the Cardhu distillery, Scotland's whisky trail signposts lead you through the picturesque lush countryside of Speyside, the world's favourite malt whisky region
Each whisky distillery on the distillery tour follows its own traditions, lore and recipes for everything from malting the barley to the height and size of its stills. The unique characteristics of each Speyside whisky distillery result in delightful, hand-crafted whisky from each one. All offer visitors a sample of the finished product and some include an informative nosing and tasting while others give an insight into the complex art of blending whisky and malt. Don't forget to have a designated driver!
Come at any time to enjoy famous names and share well-kept secrets with knowledgeable locals in well-stocked bars and friendly pubs.
