St Andrews Botanic Gardens

Parks & Gardens

Canongate, St Andrews, Fife, KY16 8RT

Explore 18 acres of beautifully landscape gardens and glasshouses containing exotic plants and flowers.

Widely regarded as one of Scotland’s horticultural gems, St Andrews Botanic Garden is located between the Lades Brae and the Canongate. Sheltered by trees, the garden is home to 8,000 species of ferns, herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees. The garden’s design and the impressive array of native and exotic species cultivated here have won it international recognition. Stroll along peaceful paths under the canopies of towering trees and take in the attractive herbaceous displays, water features, the rock garden and the peat garden. The glasshouses contain plants which would not otherwise flourish in the St. Andrews climate.  These include plants from warmer regions such as South East Asia. Whatever the weather or season, there are always plants in flower and attractive foliage to be admired both in the glasshouses and outdoors.
