The Clan Armstrong Centre features the largest Clan Armstrong library high up in Gilnockie Tower.
Gilnockie Tower was an excellent place to watch for a raid from across the border and today still stands as the only habitable Armstrong tower left in existence from the original 90 or so towers in the Eskdale and Liddesdale area.
As well as offering a fascinating insight in to reiver history and an extensive library of rare books, the centre features a life-size model of Willie 'Redcloak' Bell, a reiver who was involved in the rescue of 'Kinmont' Willie Armstrong from Carlisle Castle in 1596. The model was made by a direct descendant of 'Redcloak', James R. Bell.
