Stop by the Globe Inn, one of the favourite haunts of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns. It was here, in 1819 that the first Burns supper was held in memory of Scotland's national poet, leading to the formation of the Dumfries Burns Club in 1820 and the celebration of Burns' life which is celebrated around the world every year.

Established in 1610, the Globe Inn is one of Scotland's oldest pubs and has changed little in its physical appearance during this time. Indeed the old rooms are still there, where you can explore a treasure trove of Burns history. Discover the snug where a handwritten letter from Burns to his love Jean Armour can still be read, and his chair and the fireplace beside which he would sit and write.

Most importantly though the Globe Inn is still alive with locals and visitors alike congregating to chat and laugh, making it as far removed from a museum as you can imagine. The region is home to many different Burns experiences, but it is safe to say that your trip to Dumfries would certainly not be complete without a visit to the Bard's favourite howff.
