Whalsay Leisure Centre in Symbister is located only five minutes from the ferry terminal.
Facilities include a three lane 15 m swimming pool with children’s lagoon, a multipurpose games hall which can be used for badminton, football, hockey, and basketball, a squash court, multi station fitness suite, viewing balcony and outdoor playing field.

Since 1985 the trust has built up an impressive network of eight leisure facilities within easy reach of the vast majority of Shetland's 22,000 population - and the thousands of visitors who are astonished at the quality and quantity of recreation facilities at the northern tip of Britain.
The idea behind the Shetland Recreational Trust was to use some of Shetland's oil revenue to provide “facilities for whole communities to meet, socialise and play. They will be a major attraction for local residents and will be important facilities in the attraction of tourists”.
