Ever wanted to know more about windfarms or renewable energy? Then Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre will give you the answers you're looking for! The Visitor Centre is the first of its kind in Scotland and is an ideal location for family days out or for educational visits. Hands-on interactive exhibits make learning fun and easily accessible for everyone and specially trained staff from the Glasgow Science Centre will ensure you have an innovative and engaging visit.
The Visitor Centre is fully wheel chair accessible and has a cafe serving both hot and cold refreshments where you can relax and enjoy stunning panoramic views of Europe's largest windfarm.
With over 90kms of trails winding through the windfarm there's lots to explore outside too! Why not bring your bike and go for a cycle or take your dog for a walk among the turbines? The Visitor Centre also has external toilets and shower facilities to freshen up after your outdoor adventure.
Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre is owned by ScottishPower Renewables and managed by the Glasgow Science Centre. This partnership ensures that all visitors experience an innovative, informative and enjoyable visit.
The Visitor Centre's interactive exhibits are suitable for children and adults of all ages whether for a recreational or educational visit.
Specialist educational sessions are available for school groups with designated sessions for primary and secondary pupils. Our education sessions are integrated to match the Curriculum for Excellence and take place in our dedicated Learning Hub. A qualified Science Communicator is provided for each school group for the duration of their visit. (More information on our education sessions can be found on our website or by contacting the centre directly.)
If you love the outdoors you should take some time to explore Whitelee Windfarm. There's over 90kms of trails winding through 140 turbines that are suitable for many outdoor pursuits such as walking and cycling. Whitelee is great for nature lovers too as there is a large area of habitat management. Merlin and black grouse are just some of the species that can be spotted on site, why not see how many more you can see whilst exploring the windfarm?
At Whitelee there are also guided bus tours of the site that allow you to get up close to the turbines. This is an excellent way to find out more about the windfarm and the wider area.
Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre and the Learning Hub can be hired for a wide range of events including corporate functions and private parties. With stunning views of Europe's largest windfarm and excellent facilities, the Visitor Centre will add something extra special to any event.
