Enjoy wonderful scenery and a variety of wildlife to spot at Whitlaw Mosses in the Scottish Borders.
Take time to get to know this reserve and you'll be rewarded with the small scale subtlety of a corrugated landscape, filled with a huge diversity of plants and animals. Look for the red flash of a six spot burnet moth and keep your ears open for the determined squeal of a stealthy water rail. Or get down to ground level and admire the intricate network of mosses and sedges spread out before you, dotted with flowering plants and an occasional willow.
The best time to visit Whitlaw Mosses is from mid May to late August.
Facilities include a car park by Lindean Reservoir approximately 500 m north of Murder Moss, the largest and most accessible site. Take care on the mosses and remain on firm ground wherever possible.
