10 – 15 August 2014 - Textile Workshop with Linda Green, Edinburgh, Scotland
With guidance from this leading Scottish textile artist, we produce small textile artworks developed from drawing, collage, and exploration of found materials from the secluded Dr Neils’ Garden in the ancient village of Duddingston, near the centre of Edinburgh. We examine plant forms, fibrous structures and colours found in a typical Scottish Garden, creating a series of constructed textile experiments.
Working in a small group, Linda gives individual attention to each participant. This unique Wild at Art vacation on Lewis and Harris in the Outer Hebrides is led by local artist Nicky Sanderson. We bring alive the human and natural history of this unique location to inform our art.
Be inspired by the most ancient landscapes in Europe, the magical stones of Calanais, the colours of the moorland and rocks, the dark hills and bright beaches of Harris. Readers of Diana Gabaldon’s ‘Outlander’ series will be very familiar with the magic of ancient Scottish stones and Scotland's magnificent natural setting. The more we look at the sea, the sky and the hills, habours and villages, the more layers of colours we discover. It's easy to see why Lewis and Harris has just been named the Top Island in Europe on Tripadvisor!
31 August – 5 September 2014 - Acrylics painting In the Footsteps of the Scottish Colourists with Susan Forsyth, Cambo Estate near St Andrews, Scotland
Your painting vacation is in historic Cambo Estate, owned by the Erskine family for 300 years, located south of St Andrews. The Scottish Colourists of the 1920’s are our inspiration: Francis Cadell, Samuel Peploe, George Hunter and John Duncan Fergusson. Using acrylics, paintbrush and palette knife, 'en plein air', we paint on the Cambo beach, in the remarkable gardens, and within Cambo House. Working in a small group of 10 - 12 people, Susan gives each participant individual attention.
