10 - 15 August ~ Create small textile artwork developed from drawing, collage, and exploration of found materials from the secluded Dr Neils’ Garden in the ancient village of Duddingston, near the centre of Edinburgh. With guidance from Linda Green, a leading Scottish textile artist, we examine plant forms, fibrous structures and colours found in a typical Scottish Garden, creating a series of constructed textile experiments.Wild at Art 2014 season courses include:
24-29 August Stone Carving in Peebles ~ Make Your Mark! Stone carving in Scotland reaches back hundreds of years from Pictish to early Christian times. Readers of Diana Gabaldon’s ‘Outlander’ series will be very familiar with the magic of ancient Scottish stones. Now is your chance to get your hands on the rough stone of Scotland! In this Wild at Art course you will learn the basic skills of stone carving and create your own enduring masterpiece. Starting in Edinburgh, where the Festival will be in full swing, this holiday will take you to the beautiful Scottish Borders.
24- 29 August Jewellry & SIlversmithing in Peebles ~ Whether you are a novice or professional, or somewhere in between, you will find this small-group course leads you to create a unique piece of work. Linda is an exceptional jeweller. Just stepping into this studio is inspiring! Fully equipped, its tidiness is quickly overpowered by the variety of stunning jewelry pieces she has created. This unique Wild at Art vacation on Lewis and Harris in the Outer Hebrides is led by local artist Nicky Sanderson. We bring alive the human and natural history of this unique location to inform our art.
Be inspired by the most ancient landscapes in Europe, the magical stones of Calanais, the colours of the moorland and rocks, the dark hills and bright beaches of Harris. Readers of Diana Gabaldon’s ‘Outlander’ series will be very familiar with the magic of ancient Scottish stones and Scotland's magnificent natural setting. The more we look at the sea, the sky and the hills, habours and villages, the more layers of colours we discover.
