Welcome to Wild Sailing. We are a friendly, relaxed, and enthusiastic company offering hands on traditional sailing holidays for all abilities, whether new to sailing or an old hand on classic boats.
Skye, the Small Isles, Outer Hebrides, St Kilda
The Isles of Hebrides are universally considered one of the finest, most beautiful cruising grounds in the world, and from our base in Mallaig we can access the whole of this wonderful cruising ground and wilderness of sheltered waters and abundant anchorages.
Experience a thoroughbred.
What makes our vessel “Edith Gray” so special is undoubtably her performance. Bristol Channel Pilot Cutters were renowned for their seaworthiness, reliability and speed, and at 38ft 'Edith Gray” is a handy size to sail short handed, yet large enough to give even the most experienced sailor as much sail handling and challenges as they could wish for. For a traditional vessel she is no slouch, and among the classic fleet she is fast acquiring a reputation for speed.
She can accommodate up to 7 persons comfortably with berths to spare.
Sailing her though, is like stepping back in time. The power of the rig, the smell of wood, canvas and Stockholm tar. The feel of the vessel through the tiller and the salt wind on your face.
With dolphins riding the bow wave, gannets gliding through the troughs, swallows and carrier pidgins hitching a lift on the cabin top … this all becomes the rule rather than the exception.
Sailing.
Places you have dreamed of; St Kilda, Fingal's Cave, Colonsay, Tobermory, Firth of Lorne, Gulf of Corryvreckan, The Islay Distilleries, Ring of bright water, “There's always adventure round the next headland”.
You can Ghost along all day and not see another boat, then anchor in clear blue water off white silica beaches, to explore in the tender, take a walk or a scramble, go for a swim or read a book. Then relax with good food, good company and a single malt to watch the sun go down.
Walking and Climbing.
Our flexible itinerary means that if there is a particular Walk, Scramble or Climb you would like to do, or a place you'd like to visit, we can help facilitate this. The Cuillin Ridge, the Paps of Jura, or Beinn More and the Cuillins of Mull, or if you are looking for more technical climbing the possibilities are endless, and arriving by boat is the perfect, and sometimes only way to gain access to the lesser known routes in this treasure-trove of wilderness.
St Kilda.
For our longer trips the archipelago of St Kilda, the remotest part of the British Isles, lies 40 miles West of the Outer Hebrides.
A world heritage site with its clear water, wild landscapes and the highest sea cliffs in Britain, that are home to one of the most important sea bird breeding colonies in Europe.
A serious offshore trip, a magical destination, and a real adventure in the voyaging.
Food (a subject close to my heart).
Plenty of good home cooked food, a varied menu, with fresh vegetables, fruit, Meat and fish. (Please let us know in advance if you are a vegetarian or have any dietary requirements we will try our best to accommodate).
Tea and Fresh coffee available throughout the day (Instant if you prefer it).
Fresh fruit and snacks between meals.
Sailing 'Edith Gray' really is an experience to savour. We look forward to welcoming you.
