Welcome to Y'Appies Yarns Spinning Group
Hello and welcome to Y’Appies Yarns in the West Mainland of Orkney. Here at Y’Appies we encourage both locals and visitors to Orkney, to come along and play for the day.
Each day Monday to Thursday we hope to promote a different kind of craft e.g. crochet, knitting, peg-loom weaving, spinning, and on Tuesday we are lucky enough to have Orcadian, Moira Gunn, with us teaching us all sorts of weird and wonderfuls!
While we don’t profess to be experts in any of these crafts we can offer basic tuition, an assortment of materials, a beautiful light and airy setting with superb views, a delicious lunch and tons of encouragement.
Bring your own craft work with you or try something new, share your skills and learn from others, come for a few hours or come for the day. We present a very casual atmosphere with the emphasis on socialising and enjoying being creative. Come and join us and have some fun.
ALL WE ASK IS THAT YOU TELEPHONE FIRST TO BOOK YOUR PLACE AS NUMBERS
From the 21st April 2014 onwards throughout the season and the winter, for visitors and locals alike, here at Y’Appies Yarns (formerly Appie’s Tearoom in Sandwick) we hope to offer all year round crafty entertainment. Whether you are skilled or learning we hope you’ll come along and share some fun with us.
MONDAY - The Make It Monday Group (anything goes). Bring along any article of craft that you’re working on at the moment and instead of working away on your own at home, come and join us, see what everyone else is doing and feel inspired!
TUESDAY - Making with Moira Gunn. (different craft each week). Moira, respected throughout Orkney for her wealth of crafty information, will start with two sessions on ENCAUSTIC ART. She says there are lots of people out there who bought the kits when it was fashionable and have done very little with it. So if you’re one of those with wax and iron in the cupboard these sessions are for you.
WEDNESDAY - Crochet & Knitting. I would be happy to help anyone who is struggling to start or finish a project. Crocheting with silk or wool or knitting your own jumper, bring it along and we’ll see what we can do. Needles, hooks and yarns can be provided.
THURSDAY - Spinning and Peg-loom Weaving. (Home of the West Mainland Spinning Group) Being relatively new to spinning I can only confidently offer tons of enthusiasm and the equipment/materials for you to play with - spinning wheels, drumcarder, blending board, fleece and tops. Let’s explore and learn together.
CLOSED - Friday, Saturday & Sunday
OPEN 11AM - 4PM
Fees £5 for the day plus lunch and any materials used.
