Elizabeth MacGregor, Cottage Garden Plants

Garden Centres

Ellenbank, Tongland Road, Kirkcudbright, Dumfries & Galloway, DG6 4UU

A small, award-winning nursery and garden on the outskirts of Kirkcudbright selling classic cottage garden plants on site and by mail order.

Elizabeth MacGregor Nursery specialises in classic cottage garden plants, which it sends to keen gardeners and public gardens all over the UK and abroad. There are a large variety of plants for sale, including a wide collection of violas, both old favourites and new varieties. Other specialities include hardy geraniums, penstemons, campanulas, erynigiums, primulas and iris, along with hundreds of other floral delights and rarities.

In addition to the sales area, the nursery also boasts a half-acre formal garden. Thanks to its high curved walls, the garden provides a showcase for plants in their mature form. At its best from mid-summer, the garden's scents and colours are truly memorable. Stocks beds also allow the plants to propagate, giving rise to promising new trails of shrubbery.

As a busy working nursery, regular opening times are restricted. Thankfully, you can buy the plants by mail order, and selecting and ordering through the nursery's online shop is easy. A new catalogue is available each autumn, with plants dispatched March through early May the following year.

Elizabeth MacGregor Nursery also displays at a select number of flower shows, including Gardening Scotland and the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park Knutsford in Cheshire, where they have been regular gold medal winners since 2003.
