Balmaha Boatyard was established 150 years ago by Sandy Macfarlane's great grandfather, John Macfarlane, and is still very much a family business with traditional values.

Cruises are available via the Luss Straits and around the Nature Reserve islands. For individuals or small groups, there is a ferry service to Inchcailleach island(Inchcailloch), which has a nature trail as well as barbecue facilities.

Macfarlanes have been running the mail service on the Loch since 1948. The mailboat delivers mail to the islands of Inchtavannich, Inchmurrin, Inchcruin and Inchfad. There is a one hour stop on Inchmurrin where bar lunches are available at Inchmurrin Hotel. Days and times vary.

The boats can cater for large groups, parties, educational trips, and ramblers by arrangement.

The marina allows for seasonal wet berths and moorings, dry berths all year round, storage and holiday berths by arrangement.

There are also twenty traditional clinker style boats for hire, fishing or family days out. Longer term hires by arrangement. Game permits are available for salmon and sea-trout fishing.
