Ness Battery has been described as one of the best preserved wartime sites in Britain. This gun battery was operational in both world wars, defending the western approaches to Scapa Flow from enemy attack. Now open to the public, you can visit Ness Battery as part of a guided tour and see for yourself the concrete emplacements that once held the 6-inch guns, the impressive command post, and the remarkable mess hall, featuring the famous painted mural. Come and see the only gun battery in Britain that still has its wooden huts, and experience Orkney in wartime.
