Glasgow Miracle City Walking Tour
Various Saturdays, 1 April - 23 December 2015: 1.45pm – 4pm
Uncover contemporary public art, architecture and design to reveal Glasgow’s remarkable creative regeneration. Explore artworks installed down hidden lanes, new architecture in the city and discover Glasgow’s booming creative industries as GSA’s guides reveal the story behind the ‘Miracle’.
Glasgow’s transformation from post industrial malaise to leading contemporary arts and culture hub is explored through the places, spaces and faces that led this change, a phenomenon described as "The Glasgow Miracle" by Swiss curator Hans Ulrich Obris. From the Third Eye Centre’s community arts projects in Garnethill in the 1970’s and the New Glasgow Boys emerging from the GSA in the 1980’s, to the grass roots artist run galleries of the now regenerated Merchant City and public artworks of Turner Prize winning artists such as Douglas Gordon, GSA’s guides reveal the story behind the ‘Miracle’.
