Tour Itinerary:
Day 1
Depart Edinburgh at 08.45 heading west towards Stirling, passing Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument. We also pass Doune Castle (set of Monty Python's "Holy Grail") before stopping in the small town of Callander for a refreshment stop. We now cross over the fault line into the magnificent Highlands taking in the splendour of Loch Luibnaig, Loch Earn, through Glen Ogle and Glen Dochart, up over the wild and remote Rannoch Moor into Glencoe. This haunting glen was the scene of a great massacre in 1692 where many of the Clan Macdonald were slaughtered. We stop in this imposing mountain pass to take you for a walk so you can enjoy the spectacular views. We continue north and up the Great Glen to the mysterious beauty of Loch Ness, (The Water Horse Country) film location of the film "The Water Horse - Legend Of The Deep". We travel the whole 23 miles of the famous Loch - plenty of time to try and spot "Nessie!" We arrive at our destination of Inverness at approx 1930 where you will be dropped off at your booked accommodation. The evening is free for you to explore the capital of the Highlands.
Day 2
You will be picked up from your accommodation between 0900 & 0930 in Inverness and travel south along Loch Ness, stopping on the way for some photos of this world famous Loch. Half way down the Loch, we head west into Glen Affric. This is a very beautiful and unique area, being one of the last remaining pockets of native Caledonian Pine Forest left standing. This landscape will take you back in time to how Scotland would have looked 500 years ago. This location was used in the film "Last of the Mohicans". We can spend some time here and enjoy a walk through the forest, alongside the River Affric. From Glen Affric, we go east to Drumnadrochit, home of the Nessie Centre and Urquhart Castle. Options here to spend some time at either, before travelling south again along Loch Ness to Fort Augustus. You can have lunch in this charming village at the south tip of Loch Ness and even take a boat trip out onto the Loch to look for "Nessie". From here South now through the Grampian Mountains, along Loch Laggan, past Blair Castle, stopping for refreshments in Pitlochry before returning to Edinburgh, past Perth and over the Forth Road Bridge. Arrive approx. 1930.
