Secret Solway Tours - Dumfries and Galloway

Tour lesser known historic and natural sites along the beautiful Solway coast in Dumfries and Galloway. Take in local history and Solway cultural activities. This is a tour of the beautiful Scottish Solway 'lands less travelled'.

A Secret Solway Tour of Dumfries and Galloway

The Scottish Dumfries and Galloway Solway coastal lands are not only beautiful and rich in wildlife, they are also rich in layers of history and local heritage. Iron age people, Romans, Vikings, kings, poets, writers, munitions workers and many more have left their mark on these forgotten lands.

Over the centuries the people who live along the Solway coast have developed their own cultural identities and practices. This is an area full of hidden historic gems, and laden with local stories.

On a journey of the coastal lands between Gretna Green and Kirkcudbright in SW Scotland, tour guide Fiona Stoddart can take you to visit lesser known Solway heritage sites, including sacred places, medieval strongholds, scenic wildlife habitats, artists retreats and much more. You will hear about the local history and stories of the places you visit. You can meet local people who have their own tales to tell or visit local artisan food and drink producers. The aim of a Solwayconnections guided tour is to bring alive the rich and layered heritage of this beautiful, sometimes forgotten part of south west Scotland and to give visitors treasured and fond memories to take home with them from their time spent in the stunning Solway region.
