Aberdour

Overview

Aberdour is a day-tripper's delight on the 'Fife Riviera' with a 'silver' beach and a castle.

Over the Forth Bridge, turn right along the coast of Fife, and ye shall find the seaside town of Aberdour. Its 'silver sands' beach, looking over the Firth of Forth towards Edinburgh, is popular with visitors for watersports, walks and even building sandcastles on sunny days.

If the sun hasn't got his hat on, the town's main attraction is its castle. Built by the Douglas family, the 13th century fortified residence was extended in the 16th and 17th centuries. Features include a gallery, a fine painted ceiling, a delightful walled garden with a beehive-shaped dovecote, and St. Fillan's Church in the grounds.
