Arbroath is most famous for its smoked haddock, but its picturesque and well-maintained beach is alone worth a visit the harbour town.
This long and flat stretch of sand is a fantastic place to spend a pleasant day kicking a ball about or building sand castles with a young family. A recipient of a Seaside Award Flag as part of the Keep Scotland Beautiful campaign, the beach has designated bathing waters and is flanked by a cycle way a grassy area adjacent to the car park.
The cliff-top walk above the beach offers stunning coast views and is an excellent vantage point for spotting seabirds and the occasional sea. There is also a children’s play area and rock pools to explore, and Kerr’s Miniature Railway – the oldest miniature railway in Scotland – is located nearby.
The best access to the beach is from West Links Leisure Park and from the car park adjacent to the small red lighthouse located at the southern approach to the town.
