Burra & Trondra

Islands

Burra & Trondra is a community of around 1,000 people, the islands being connected to Mainland Shetland by bridges.

Burra itself is divided into East Burra and West Burra and there is a sizeable community at Hamnavoe. Trondra is a small, narrow island that is sparsely populated.  Both islands are very green and the scenery is gentler than much of Shetland. Fishing and crofting are the main occupations and the islands have a rich arts and crafts culture too.
